About Millburn and Short Hills – by Karen Eastman Bigos
If you want to know the inside track on Millburn and Short Hills, this is a good place to start. With over 25 years of residential real estate experience in the community and as a graduate of Millburn High School in 1978, it is safe to say I am an expert on 07078 and 07041. I even ran my 10th, 20th and 30th high school class reunions and created a Class of 1978 website to unite my classmates. That’s why I named my blog as the NJHomeExpert; after selling over 700 homes in the area and devoting MORE than half my life to this business and the community, I am one of the noted experts.
Friends actually consider me a trivia expert on the area, and often call me or send a text the way they would dial 411 if they needed a phone number. Who better to know Millburn township than someone who was born and raised here. whose father Martin Eastman owned a store in the downtown for over 2 decades and who’s mom Sandra Eastman was a Realtor here for over twenty years. I attended Nursery School in Taylor Park at the Millburn Co-Op, then went to South Mountain Elementary School, Deerfield Elementary School, Millburn Junior High (now the Middle School) and finally the High School.
My partner Daniel Cannizzo is third generation Millburn and his grandparents lived here and owned a landscaping company and later his parents had Cannizzo’s Market. We calculated that together, our families owned businesses in the communtiy for over 100 years. Daniel is also a graduate of Millburn High and together we have served on the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce for over 25 years. He was the proprietor of two restaurants in Millburn: Cafe Main and Forty Main Street, which is now Martini Bistro, the best bar in town.
Danny knows EVERYONE as a past president of the NJ Restaurant Association and also a member of the choir at Wyoming Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. Daniel had three aunts who worked in the school system, his uncle was township attorney and he also served on the Town Council. With over 30 first cousins in the area and a graduation class of over 350, the connections in the community run deep. Dan works on the Township Beautification League and Karen has been on the Board of Trustees for The Millburn-Short Hills Historical Society since 1994 (sorry the website is a bit out of date). Both are active supporters of Paper Mill Playhouse and never miss a weekly visit to the world famous Millburn Delicatessan, otherwise known as ‘The Del’. We even sold the one of the owners of the Deli a home!
From shopping at every local grocery store, to manicures, hair salons, dry cleaning, movies, massages, clothing. toy purchases, shoe shopping at Footnotes, coffee at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts or Rockin Joe’s, Karen and Dan are always in town, mingling with friends, colleagues and our current and past clients. We know many of the teachers. we attend the Strawberry Festivals, the township parades and for over 10 years we have been gold sponsors of the Millburn-Short Hills 4th of July Festivities in Taylor Park. We are regularly stopping in at town hall, going to the library, the post office, the local pizza places and even out for an ice cream at one of our many eateries. If it happens in Millburn or Short Hills, we know about it and we will happily share our insights with you.
