Thinking of selling your home? At Towne Realty Group in Short Hills, NJ, we know that that more you do before you list your home, and the better your house looks, the faster and higher your home will sell. You have only one chance to make a good first impression so time to take some notes and see if you pass inspection.
Now is the time to stand at the front door and see exactly what the buyer and his Realtor are seeing as they approach your home. If you, like many home owners, enter your home from the back door or perhaps walk into the house from the garage, its time you stood in the buyers shoes and see what he is seeing.
To start – how happy is your front lawn? Is it green? Are there weeds? Is there mulch in the beds? Do the hedges need a trim?
What about the front walk? Is it even, are tree roots making ripples, is the cement cracking between the stones, brick or cement? Can someone trip due to bulges or uneven walkways?
As you get to the front door, how are the steps? Are the railings rusted? What about the landing. (Are there more than 4 steps without a railing? This can be dangerous in itself). Do you need a new doormat? Is the screen torn or the storm door from the last century?
Here is one example of a charming home in Maplewood, NJ were the sellers at 58 Bowdoin Street, took the advice of agent Jen Lieberman and really made the front look inviting and fresh. Complimented by one of our Towne company Welcome Mats, this house makes you smile as you approach the front door.
How is does the mailbox look? Is it rusted or is the paint chipping? What about the light outside? Is the glass covered with spider webs? Is the glass clean, are the bulbs burned out?
Your front door should be shiny and clean. The saddle at the bottom should be freshly painted and and it would look great if you have fresh plants on either side or on one side of the door.
Before your buyer walks inside, you have just been graded on your approach and cleaning up all of these details will make a big difference in the eyes of the buyer.
