The last weekend in September marked yet another Jake’s Ride event for 2010, where residents of Millburn and Short Hills, NJ and surrounding towns, raised over $200,000 as they rode their bikes in an effort to increase donations and awareness for the Dystonia and Parkinsons diseases. Brought to the forefront by Short Hills teen Jake Silverman, who was striken with the disease a few years ago, this has become a big event for the community. Here is Jake’s Story.
Many residents displayed signs and painted bicycles on their front lawn to generate support from people to make donations on line and to support various teams who were riding bikes at a race originating at Hartshorn Elementary School in Short Hills. Countless volunteers and police set up to get the riders organized.
Towne Realty Group was proud to place a white painted bicycle on the front of their offices at 511 Millburn Avenue in Short Hills to help generate support and awareness for this important event. In addition, TRG sponsored two teams of local residents, David Gardner and Ross Silver, both past clients who have purchased homes in town from Karen Eastman Bigos.
The local Newspaper, The Item of Millburn-Short Hills has written many updates on the story and has published many great photos in the paper following the race and it was a great day for the township and the Silverman Family. One of the stories in The Item.
“Over the past two years the fundraiser has earned approximately”. $500,000.”
By 2011 they could break the one milion dollars!
