During May and June of 2016, graduating senior Victoria Morin, from The Pingry School in Basking Ridge, NJ, worked for five hours a day at Towne Realty Group’s, Short Hills Office for her Independent Senior Project (ISP), in lieu of attending classes during her last two months at school.
Over the last several years, the ISP program, has offered students the opportunity to gain real-world experience, as interns and apprentices, and learned invaluable life skills. These capstone projects allow seniors to evaluate their own areas of expertise, pursue outside interests, and even make informed decisions about college and career paths. In this case, Ms. Morin was accepted early decision to Brown University, and she was interested in learning about the Real Estate market as a part of her studies, so this project was a perfect fit.
While at Towne, she studied market trends of luxury homes over the last fifteen years, tracking current list prices, reduced list prices, sale prices, old selling prices and the comparisons between list price/sale price and days on the market for over 100 properties priced from $1,000,000 to $6,000,000.
She also designed an email marketing campaign and database of thousands of Realtors, clients and prospects, to receive bi-monthly notices and announcements from the company through Constant Contact. The campaign provides an engaging communication with existing customers, nurture ongoing relationships and keep our listings at top of mind for repeat and referral business.
Several days were spent tracking a listing of a luxury home from start to finish, with the transformation that occurs during the staging of a property which has been painted, cleaned, and decluttered. It was an eye-opening experience for her to realize all the effort that goes into a property as she watched the improvement after carpet cleaning, window washing, landscaping, and various changes to furnishings, bedding, decor and new artwork, that lead up to a photo shoot and open houses for the Brokers. We did not shoot before photos but the listing can be viewed here.
A great learning experience for both student and mentors, we look forward to sponsoring another student in 2017. This will be the third student who has worked at our office as an intern and all parties benefited from the opportunity. Our last intern in 2015, Benjamin Glicklich, a former Millburn High School Student and now a rising Junior studying at the University of Miami, has returned as a paid employee this summer.
