If you live anywhere near Millburn, NJ and you have a pet, then you should make sure to visit the Millburn Pet Shop at 378 Millburn Avenue, across from Millburn Town Hall near the new Babyland Toy Store and next to The Garden Path.
Perhaps you remember this store originally as Maplewood Pet Shop? They were located one town over in Maplewood, NJ for 38 years, until they opened this store in April 2010. The owners, Bill and Candy McClure have a loyal following who drive several miles to shop in their cozy store. When I stopped in last week, loyal customer Salene Sachs from Maplewood, was there buying her supply of pet food and she has been shopping in their store for many years. It seems many of their fans have followed them here and they would never dream of going to one of those big pet stores; they love the personal service and cozy atmosphere of this establishment.
I’m a dog lover and I always make sure my 12 year old English Setter Hogan, has his Wellness Dog food. One of many natural or organic pet foods that are always available in many varieties, this is a specialty of Millburn Pet Shop. My dog is a part of the family who travels with me on vacation and he loves to dress up and stay in hotels. He is a senior citizen and I was delighted to find a special treat for him at Millburn Pet Shop that contains a dose of glucosamine to help with stiffness of joints and his old hips. Hip Action chewy treats are a sure way for me to know that he is getting what he needs to loosen up his old body. They have plenty of toys, leashes and lots of other treats and bones that I regularly buy for the dogs of my clients and friends.
Millburn Pet Shop is open seven days a week. Monday – Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm and on Sundays from 9 am to 5 pm. The best news is that they deliver to Millburn, Short Hills, Summit, and Maplewood, and it is not expensive. If you work late and commute into Manhattan, and you remember at the last minute that you are out of dog or cat food, you can simply call them at 973-376-4744 and they can drop a bag or cans of food off at your back door, so it is waiting for you when you get home. What could be more convenient? You don’t have to worry about getting home from work late and realizing that you are out of food for your pet.
They stock rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, goldfish and birds. If you can buy it there, they sell all the food, toys, leashes, cages, beds, and accessories you need to own any of the pets they sell. You can almost always find Michelle, the sales person and cashier, greeting you with a friendly smile and ready to assist when you visit the store. Can’t find something you need? They will find it for you or make suggestions. If the bag of food is too heavy, they’ll carry it out to the car for you and there is always ample parking right out front on Millburn Avenue.
If you are anything like I am, you want the best for your pet. I like to spoil my dog and it feels great when you can do that while also supporting the businesses in our community. I like to help promote the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce and think it is great when we can keep our downtown thriving. My colleagues at Towne Realty Group love going out for ‘Yappy Hour’ and taking our dogs out with us for treats while we meet for a drink after work.
